Sending Non-HTML Content
Written by Eric Smith, Northstar Computer Systems LLC
In some applications, such as an ad management system, you need to be able to send other types of content from your ASP pages other than HTML. This is easy to do using the ContentType property of the Response object. Here's a quick example that will send a GIF file into another page.
Here's the request within an IMG tag:
<img src="displayad.asp" height=60 width=468 border=0>
Here's the code to send an ad to this location:
<%
Response.ContentType = "image/gif"
Response.Redirect "image.gif"
%>
Once the content type has been set, the browser will expect the appropriate type of content, which the ASP page feeds by way of the redirect method. You can do this with any type of content, but images are the most common to do in this manner.
