Run ASP on Windows 95 and 98

Written by Eric Smith, Northstar Computer Systems LLC

If you don't have an NT Server to run Internet Information Server on, you can still use Active Server Pages. The core functionality of IIS is available for Windows 95, 98, and NT Workstation as a slightly different product called Personal Web Server. This utility has some of the same features as IIS but isn't really designed for production-level web sites and is missing much of the security and authentication capabilities of IIS on NT Server. To install this product, you can get a copy of the Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack, even if you have 95 or 98. You'll be able to install Personal Web Server, a version of Microsoft Transaction Server, and several other related utilities. This will allow you to run Active Server Pages locally before you upload your files to your production server. You can also download Personal Web Server from http://www.microsoft.com.
