Creating a Simple Ad Rotator

Written by Eric Smith, Northstar Computer Systems LLC

Users tend to respond better to banner ads when they change. Some sites, such as Amazon.com, make a number of banners available for use by their affiliates. However, you don't want to have to specify a single banner for each page. However, you can use the following code to randomly rotate through the banners, which have to be named using a number. For instance, you could use a name such as amazon7.gif. However, the name needs to be consistent for this code to work.
<%
   Randomize ' provides true random numbers
   Dim intID   ' As Integer
   intID = CInt(Rnd() * 12)
   If sngID < 1 Then
      intID = 1
   End If
%>
<img src="amazon<% = intID %>.gif">
