ASP Not Loading Properly

Written by Eric Smith, Northstar Computer Systems LLC

A number of users have complained that their ASP pages are not loading properly in particular browsers. If this happens to you, it's not the ASP server-side code that is an issue. Typically, the problem is in the HTML that you're generating. The problem I run into frequently is in dealing with tables. Internet Explorer is much more lax about enforcing table definitions than other browsers are. If you're having problems with a page not displaying, double-check to make sure that each table tag is ended properly. In addition, make sure that all the attributes in your tags are quoted, like this:
<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
The most important step, however, is to make sure that your tags all match up. I prefer to indent the tags so that I can easily find the beginning and end of each table:
<table>
   <tr>
      <td>Text</td>
      <td>Text 2</td>
   </tr>
</table>
